AMD expects to complete the acquisition of Xilinx in Q1 2022
In October 2020, AMD announced the acquisition of Xilinx through an all-stock transaction plan valued at approximately $35 billion. After the transaction is completed, AMD shareholders will own 74% of the combined company, and Xilinx shareholders will own another 26%. The boards of directors of both companies unanimously approved the transaction.
AMD officially issued a statement on December 30, 2021, stating that good progress has been made in regulatory approvals. Although the relevant procedures have not been completed, it is expected that the acquisition of Xilinx will be completed in the first quarter of 2022. At the same time, AMD confirmed that there are no other changes to the previously announced terms or plans involving related transactions. The two parties continue to look forward to the proposed merger and become the industry leader in high-performance and adaptive computing.
Similar to the acquisition of Arm by NVIDIA for $40 billion, the completion of this transaction requires the approval of regulatory agencies around the world. However, unlike NVIDIA, which needs to face strict review from relevant regulatory agencies, AMD’s acquisition is obviously much smaller than that of NVIDIA. AMD’s acquisition of Xilinx is currently in the final approval stage of regulators. It was previously reported that the transaction may be approved within 2021. For now, AMD’s acquisition of Xilinx is more of a slight delay, but it will not cause structural problems, which will destroy the final transaction.
