AMD Announces Radeon RX 7900 XTX/XT Graphics Cards: Based on RDNA 3 architecture

On November 3, 2022, at 1 pm PDT, AMD hosted a special live event called “together we advance_gaming” to officially released the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics cards based on the next-generation RDNA 3 architecture GPU, providing better ray tracing and raster performance.

Both Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT are equipped with Navi 31 GPU, only two 8Pin external power supply ports, and the power consumption is 355W and 300W respectively. AMD claims that the performance per watt of the RDNA3 architecture is 54% higher than that of RDNA2, and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 70% higher performance at 4K resolution than the previous generation flagship Radeon RX 6950 XT. The Radeon RX 7900 XT will also outperform Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti.

Using TSMC’s 5nm process and chiplet design, Navi 31 is AMD’s first consumer-grade GPU in an MCM multi-chip package, with 58 billion transistors. It is equipped with one GCD and six MCDs and will use two different process technologies, the former is TSMC’s 5nm, and the latter is 6nm. Equipped with the optimized next-generation Infinity Cache, it not only provides higher density and lower power consumption but also improves effective bandwidth and hit rate. The fully configured Navi 31 provides 61 TFLOPs of single-precision computing performance, while the RDNA 2 architecture-based Navi 21 is 23 TFLOPs.

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 6144 stream processors with base frequency, game frequency, and acceleration frequency of 1.9 GHz, 2.3 GHz, and 2.5 GHz respectively. The video memory is 24GB of GDDR6, the video memory bit width is 384 bits, the video memory speed is 20 Gbps, the video memory bandwidth is 960 GB/s, and the Infinity Cache is 96MB.

The Radeon RX 7900 XT uses a reduced Navi 31, with 5,376 stream processors, and the base frequency, game frequency, and acceleration frequency are 1.5 GHz, 2.0 GHz, and 2.4 GHz, respectively. The video memory is 20GB of GDDR6, the video memory bit width is 320 bits, the video memory rate is 20 Gbps, the video memory bandwidth is 800 GB/s, and the Infinity Cache is 80MB.

AMD also brought a new display engine, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon RX 7900 XT are the first Radeon graphics cards to support the DisplayPort 2.1 interface. A single cable can provide 8K@165Hz or 4K@480Hz display output, which can meet the requirements of UHBR13.5 link rate (54Gbps). It is believed that the new display engine will also appear on the integrated display in the future.

In addition, the new generation of graphics cards also supports FSR 3 to further improve frame performance, as well as Hyper-RX technology, which can achieve “one-click performance and latency improvement”. However, both are temporarily unavailable and will not be launched until next year, competing with NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is priced at $999 and the Radeon RX 7900 XT is priced at $899 and will go on sale on December 13, 2022.
