AMD announces 2022Q4 and full-year financial report
AMD announced its fourth-quarter and full-year results for 2022. Due to the strong demand for EPYC series products in data centers, AMD’s annual revenue hit a record high. However, AMD’s consumer CPU and GPU sales fell sharply in the fourth quarter, restraining AMD’s revenue growth.
The revenue of the data center department was $1.655 billion, an increase of 42% year-on-year, and the operating profit was $444 million, which was also higher than the operating profit of $369 million in the same period last year; the customer business department had revenue of $903 million, less than half of the same period last year ($1.829 billion), a year-on-year decrease of 51%, an operating loss of $152 million, and an operating profit of $530 million in the same period last year; the revenue of the game division was $1.644 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7%, and the operating profit was $266 million, compared with $407 million in the same period last year; the revenue of the Embedded Division was $1.397 billion, an increase of 1868% year-on-year, and the operating profit was $699 million, compared with $18 million in the same period last year.
AMD said that in the first quarter of 2023, the revenue of the client business unit and the gaming business unit will decline, which will be roughly offset by the growth of the data center business unit and the embedded business unit. AMD expects revenue in the first quarter of 2023 to be approximately $5.3 billion, plus or minus $300 million, a year-on-year decrease of 10%, and a gross profit margin of around 50%, which is lower than analysts’ expectations.
