AMD Announces 2022Q2 Earnings: Quarterly revenue tops $6 billion for the first time

AMD announced its 2022Q2 earnings results, with revenue of $6.55 billion, up 70% year over year and 11.3% sequentially. This is the first time that AMD’s quarterly revenue has exceeded the $6 billion mark, and it has set a new record for single-quarter revenue for eight consecutive quarters. Compared with Intel’s sharp decline in performance, AMD still maintains a growth trend, but the growth rate has begun to slow down.

During the quarter, AMD’s gross margin was 54%, up 6% year over year and 1% sequentially. Net income was $447 million, down 37% from $710 million in the same period last year, and earnings per diluted share were $0.27, down 53% from $0.58 in the same period last year, mainly due to the acquisition of Xilinx amortization of intangible assets.
The revenue of the data center division was $1.486 billion, and the operating profit was $472 million, a year-on-year increase of 131%. Customer Division, revenue was $2.152 billion, up 25% year-on-year, and operating profit was $676 million, up 26% year-on-year. The revenue of the game division was $1.655 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32%, and the operating profit was $187 million, a year-on-year increase of 7%. The embedded business unit had revenue of $1.45 billion and an operating profit of $641 million.

AMD expects revenue for the third quarter of 2022 to be approximately $6.7 billion, plus or minus $200 million, an increase of approximately 55% year over year. While AMD beat analysts’ expectations in the second quarter of 2022, the outlook for the third quarter of 2022 fell short of expectations. In addition, AMD expects full-year 2022 revenue to be approximately $26.3 billion, plus or minus $300 million, an increase of approximately 60% over 2021, with the addition of Xilinx, the server market, and semi-custom business being the main drivers.
