Amazon will add auto-generated artificial intelligence to Alexa digital assistant service

Business Insider has obtained information indicating that Amazon plans to incorporate auto-generative artificial intelligence akin to ChatGPT into its Alexa digital assistant service, enabling Echo smart speakers integrated with Alexa to engage in human-like conversations and interactions.

While the current Alexa digital assistant can already interact with users in a human-like manner, most responses are mechanically generated based on pre-programmed arrangements, resulting in a noticeable difference from genuine human interaction.

However, following Amazon’s recent announcement of the Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Titan models, the company evidently aims to expand its auto-generative AI technology applications and enter the competitive market.

Documents obtained by Business Insider reveal that Amazon will undertake a significant overhaul of its Alexa digital assistant service, including the integration of auto-generative AI similar to ChatGPT. This will enable Alexa to interact more human-like and engage in autonomous thinking, rather than merely searching for suitable answers in a database.

In response, Amazon confirmed the development, emphasizing that the adjustments are based on their own large-scale natural language models and auto-generative AI technology. They will utilize an “Alexa Teacher Model” to enhance the comprehensive capabilities of the Alexa digital assistant service.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, during a recent earnings call, stated that over 100 million devices equipped with the Alexa digital assistant service have been sold worldwide. He also mentioned the ongoing construction of large-scale, versatile natural language models for the Alexa service, with the expectation of promoting broader commercial applications in the market.
