Acer’s New Chromebooks: Power, Productivity, & Playtime
Acer has recently unveiled two new Chromebooks: the Chromebook Plus Spin 714 and the 516 GE, designed respectively for productivity and gaming scenarios. Both models support Google Magic Editor, Gemini AI assistant, and Adobe AI functionalities, with the 516 GE additionally supporting NVIDIA GeForce NOW for cloud gaming, allowing seamless gameplay.
The Chromebook Plus Spin 714 features a 2-in-1 convertible design with an aluminum alloy body. It boasts a 14-inch touchscreen display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1920×1200, a peak brightness of 340 nits, and 100% sRGB color gamut coverage. The display is touch-enabled and compatible with an optional USI stylus, making it convenient for tasks such as drawing. The Chromebook Plus 516 GE, on the other hand, has a conventional laptop design, featuring a 16-inch IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a resolution of 2560×1600, a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 350 nits, and 100% sRGB color gamut coverage.
In terms of core configurations, the Spin 714 offers options for Ultra 7 165U/155U and Ultra 5 125U/115U processors, while the 516 GE offers Ultra 7 150U and Ultra 5 120U processors. Both models lack discrete graphics cards, instead utilizing Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. The Spin 714 is equipped with 16GB of dual-channel LPDDR5X memory, whereas the 516 GE features 16GB of dual-channel LPDDR4X-4266 memory. Both models come with PCIe 4.0 SSDs, with the Spin 714 offering a 512GB capacity and the 516 GE a substantial 2TB capacity.
Both laptops are equipped with webcams and support WiFi 6E, featuring two USB Type-C ports, one USB port, one HDMI port, and one 3.5mm audio jack. Notably, the Type-C ports on the Spin 714 are Thunderbolt 4, supporting 65W PD fast charging, while the Type-C ports on the 516 GE are standard full-function Type-C ports, supporting DP video output and charging. Additionally, the 516 GE includes an RJ45 Ethernet port. Currently, these two laptops have not been listed on domestic e-commerce platforms, and their pricing remains undisclosed.
