The well-known notebook brand Acer announced at CES 2022 that their 2-in-1 notebook Chromebook Spin 513 will be updated, and the new model will use the Kompanio 1380 SoC from MediaTek.
MediaTek’s new chip Kompanio 1380 can be said to be their first step into the high-end SoC market, so it has also won the attention of many people. MediaTek’s SoC is generally used in 500 series or 800 series Chromebook notebooks, so this new Kompanio 1380 should bring a very considerable performance improvement. Generally speaking, MediaTek’s SoC has always been known for its high energy efficiency. Although this is conducive to the battery life of notebooks or tablets, it is not ideal in terms of performance.
In addition to the processor update, the new Acer Chromebook Spin 513 will also have a larger screen. However, with the support of a more powerful processor and a larger screen, the battery life of the new Spin 513 may be a little weaker. Last year’s Spin 513 officially claimed to have 13.5 hours of battery life, while this year’s new model is 10 hours.
In addition to Spin 513, Acer also released Chromebooks 315 and 314. The former has a 15.6-inch 1080P screen and a complete numeric keypad, while the latter has a 14-inch 1080P and no numeric keypad.
