3M announces the successful development of new technologies to bring optical fingerprint recognition and iris recognition to LCD screens
Optical fingerprint recognition is currently used by most new smartphones. Although face recognition is also mainstream, fingerprint recognition may be relatively more convenient.
In the screen fingerprint recognition, ultrasonic fingerprint recognition seems to be the mainstream, but the new technology developed by the 3M company can use infrared to perform fingerprint recognition.
3M said its Near-Infrared Transmission System can provide optical recognition functions, including but not limited to fingerprint, face, and eye scan recognition used to identify users.
This technology is completely dependent on optics and optical sensors without the use of ultrasound or other technologies, but it is far lower than other recognition technologies in terms of price.
The company claims that with the help of the new near-infrared transmission system, it can provide better security for the device, and it can also improve the user experience and make it easier for users to verify.
3M says:
3M NITS uses advanced, micro-thin 3M optical display films to allow fingerprint-reading optical sensors to be placed behind an LCD screen. This new-to-the-world technology unlocks better security with a full screen for mobile phones and other devices featuring LCD display systems.
This system can be used in tablets, notebook computers and other LCD devices to bring both biometric security and a full screen. Imagine forgetting your alpha-numeric password and relying only on your fingerprint or eye scan to log into your bank, your work and other applications that should be accessible only to you.
