Windows 2024: The AI-Powered Future Revealed by Qualcomm & Microsoft

During the Snapdragon Summit last year, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite, a platform that embodies the dawn of a new era in computing. Esteemed for its groundbreaking capabilities, the Snapdragon X Elite is heralded as a pioneering platform that promises to revolutionize the PC experience through its unparalleled CPU performance, cutting-edge on-device AI inferencing, and support for extended battery life, thereby significantly enhancing the PC user experience.

According to a report by Beta News, in Qualcomm’s first-quarter earnings call of 2024, CEO Christiano Amon announced an ongoing collaboration with Microsoft aimed at integrating a multitude of AI features within the next generation of Windows systems. The inaugural AI PCs equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite are anticipated to debut in mid-2024, coinciding with the next version of Windows.

There have been reports suggesting that Microsoft is preparing a significant update for Windows 11, codenamed “Hudson Valley,” focusing on next-generation AI experiences, potentially as part of the Windows 11 24H2 or 2024 update, expected to be released later this year. Some speculate this update could introduce “Windows 12,” though a new generation operating system may more likely appear later, possibly even next year.

The Snapdragon X Elite, fabricated using TSMC’s 4nm process, features twelve custom Oryon cores with a full-core frequency of up to 3.8 GHz and a boost frequency for two cores of up to 4.3 GHz. It includes Qualcomm’s proprietary Adreno GPU, delivering 4.6TOPS of computational performance, and is equipped with a 45TOPS NPU designed specifically for AI applications. Supporting LPDDR5X memory with speeds up to 8533 MT/s and a maximum capacity of 64GB, corresponding to a maximum bandwidth of 136 GB/s, it also supports PCIe 4.0 and UFS 4.0 storage, in addition to 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.
