Windows 11 Beta Build 22631.5696: Critical Fixes for ReFS & Printing
Microsoft has just released Windows 11 Beta Build 22631.5696 (KB5062663) to address several known system issues. These fixes are expected to arrive later this month as part of an optional update for the stable version of Windows 11 and will be rolled out to all users as a regular cumulative update in August.
This update primarily targets bugs related to the ReFS (Resilient File System) and printer functionalities. Some professional users utilize ReFS to enhance performance; however, a recently discovered bug can cause backup operations to exhaust system memory, potentially disrupting normal usage.
Therefore, users relying on ReFS may wish to wait. While the optional update—despite its beta nature—may offer relief, those prioritizing system stability might prefer to hold off until the more robust August “B” release is available.
Below is the update changelog:
- File System: Resolved a known issue in ReFS where using backup applications with large files could lead to complete memory exhaustion.
- File System: Fixed a bug that could return incorrect error messages—such as “No More Files”—when searching for PDF files in shared folders. This issue could interfere with printing and backup tasks.
- Network Error: Addressed a problem on certain devices with cellular connectivity where peripherals took longer than expected to resume functionality after waking from sleep.
- Printing Improvements: Enhanced support for printers using the IPP (Internet Printing Protocol). With IPP-directed discovery, printer names are now more prominently displayed, making it easier for users to recognize and install devices.
- Other Issues: Fixed a rare issue that could cause certain devices to become unresponsive or crash after installing updates released in or after May 2025.
