Windows 10 v1809 will reach end-of-life next week

Windows 10 Version 1809, which has caused the loss or deletion of users’ private files, is considered the most serious rollover of Microsoft in recent years.

However, time flies in the blink of an eye, this version will also usher at the end of its life cycle, Microsoft was originally scheduled to end Windows 10 Version 1809 support on May 12.

However, due to the impact of the epidemic, Microsoft is worried that many users and companies will not be able to upgrade in time, so the end of support for this version was postponed by Microsoft to November 10, 2020.

After the end of support, Microsoft will no longer release security updates for the Home Edition and Professional Edition series of this version, and version channels such as the Enterprise Edition and Education Edition will have additional updates.

According to the latest support announcement officially released by Microsoft, the company will officially end support for the Windows 10 version 1809 next week.

The affected consumer series versions include Home Edition, Home China Edition, Professional Edition, Professional Workstation Edition, Retail Education Edition, and IoT Core Edition.

These versions will receive the final cumulative update next week, including security updates to fix vulnerabilities, and from next month Microsoft will no longer provide security updates.

The absence of security updates means that these versions cannot fix security vulnerabilities and various errors in a timely manner, which will not only reduce security but may also affect the normal use of users.

Therefore, based on security considerations, Microsoft strongly recommends that users upgrade to supported versions as soon as possible, including Windows 10 1903, 1909, v2004, v2009.

Under normal circumstances, Microsoft will provide additional support for the Enterprise Edition and Education Edition. This support period is usually one year as extended support.

The originally planned support cycle of Windows 10 v1809 will end on May 11, and the support cycle after Microsoft’s extended support due to the epidemic is November 10.

However, the additional support period of enterprise channel-related versions will no longer be extended, which means that these versions will completely end security support on May 11, 2021.

Enterprises and educational institutions need to complete the version upgrade before this date, otherwise, the inability to obtain security updates at that time may seriously reduce system security.
