Windows 10 update caused an abnormality in Search and VMware Workstation
Microsoft has intensively released multiple Windows 10 cumulative updates from the end of last month to the beginning of this month, but these cumulative updates are all test-type updates. Of course, as you know, these cumulative updates also fix old problems and bring new problems, such as start menu crashes and printer-related issues.
The latest problems discovered by users are Windows Desktop Search and virtual machine problems. At present, quite a few users have encountered search blanks and virtual machines cannot be opened. The trouble with this is the Windows 10 Version 1903 KB4517211 update, which is the update that caused the printer driver to behave unexpectedly.
“After installing kb4517211 and rebooting, you cannot type anything into the search field. You can’t even get your cursor in there,” a user said on Feedback.
“Forced to uninstall and then block the cumulative update KB4517211 because it causes search not to work from the taskbar search icon (search window not displayed), nor from just typing on Windows Start Menu,” another user chimed in with a similar problem.
A considerable number of users install the search box in the taskbar after this update or when searching through Cortana, no matter what keyword search function is entered, it returns blank results. Even some users can click the search box to pop up the big search box but not even the cursor, that is, you can’t search in the search box and you can’t search.
Since then, Microsoft has released a new optional update KB4524147 but this update only addresses printer driver issues. It is estimated that at the time of Microsoft’s release, the company is still unclear about the abnormality of the desktop search function, so the new optional update naturally does not fix the related issues.
In the cumulative update released by Microsoft recently, the VMware virtual machine has an abnormal situation again. This time, because Microsoft has not found the problem, it does not know the specific reason. Only when the user tries to open the virtual machine will pop up a prompt indicating that it is not working properly, and VMware also prompts the user to try to check the new version to solve the problem.
“VMware Workstation Pro can’t run on Windows: Check for an updated version of this app that runs on Windows,” reads a notification from Windows Compatibility Assistant.
However, Vmware does not have a new version, for the time being, so users can’t solve the problem through the update, so it is still necessary to uninstall the cumulative update to resume operation.
To uninstall the patch, follow these steps:
- Open Update & Security Settings app and go to View update history.
- Next, click on Uninstall updates.
- Choose the update (KB4517211) you want to uninstall.
- Click the Uninstall button on Control Panel.
- Click on Yes to confirm your decision.
- Restart your device to go back to the previous build.
