Windows 10 for ARM can run on M1 Macs

Parallels, a well-known virtualization software developer, is currently actively cooperating with Microsoft to solve the current problem that the virtualization software cannot run Windows 10 on the M1 MacBook.

In fact, there are already virtual machines that can run Windows 10 on the M1 chip, and the performance loss is extremely low, so the overall experience is also very good. This virtual machine is an open-source virtualization project QEMU.

Parallels Desktop for Mac does not support running Windows 10 on the M1 chip for the time being. The fundamental reason is that Microsoft has not released the regular version of Windows 10 on the ARM processor. At present, Windows on ARM devices run Windows 10 ARM version. It is not the x86 version, but it is obvious that users are unlikely to use the Windows 10 ARM version with flaws in functionality and performance through virtualized installation.

However, Parallels has reached cooperation with Microsoft. Parallels Desktop has switched to binary files and optimized its virtualization code. Microsoft will provide Parallels with a dedicated Windows 10 image that can run Windows 10 x86 on ARM chips.

At present, the two parties are actively cooperating and recruiting users to participate in the use of the early technology preview version to obtain feedback and troubleshoot issues. Interested users can click here for details.
