Valve Releases Steam Hardware & Software Survey May 2022

Recently, Valve released the results of its Steam Hardware & Software Survey for May 2022. In the new report, the 6-core CPU made a comeback, surpassing the 4-core CPU again and becoming the highest proportion of CPU cores. In addition, the mid-to-high-end GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards have seen substantial growth, and sufficient supply and falling prices seem to have stimulated players’ desire to buy, further promoting the popularity of Ampere-based GPUs.

Currently, on Steam, 6-core CPUs account for 33.6%, an increase of 0.54% compared to 33.06% in the previous issue, while 4-core CPUs account for 33.22%, a decrease of 0.76% over the previous issue, making 6-core CPUs are back at the top of the list. It is worth noting that the 8-core CPU also increased significantly, from 17.91% to 18.68%, an increase of 0.77%, but it will take some time for the 8-core CPU to compete for the top spot.

Among them, the share of Intel CPUs in Steam was 67.19%, and AMD was 32.8%. AMD increased by 1.24%, and Intel had a corresponding decrease.

After entering 2022, the price of graphics cards will decline across the board. Many players are still waiting for the price of the graphics card to fall back to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and even hold coins to wait for a new generation of graphics cards, but the loosening of prices still promotes graphics card sales. The data shows that over the past month, GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards had the fastest growth rate, followed by GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce RTX 3060. The increase in the GeForce GTX 1070’s share seems to indicate that there are quite a few older cards for sale.

Despite the recent momentum of the GeForce RTX 30 series, the GeForce GTX 1060/GTX 1650/GTX 1050 Ti/RTX 2060 still occupies a considerable share of Steam, and overall, the growth rate of the new generation of graphics cards is still unsatisfactory.
