Valve officially releases SteamVR 2.0

Valve has announced the official launch of SteamVR 2.0, merely a month after its prior beta version. The company states that this edition will incorporate all the exhilarating new features from the Steam platform into VR, harmonizing the Steam ecosystem for all users. The objective is to furnish a more consistent experience across devices, and future updates will be continually rolled out, adding Steam features more swiftly and frequently to stay in sync.

Highlight features updated in the official release of SteamVR 2.0 include:

  • Most of the current features of Steam and Steam Deck are now part of SteamVR
  • Updated keyboard with support for dual-cursor typing, new languages, emojis, and themes
  • Integration of Steam Chat and Voice Chat
  • Improved Store that puts new and popular VR releases front and center
  • Easy access to Steam notifications

On this occasion, Valve has not introduced new VR hardware. It’s noteworthy that since the launch of the Valve Index in 2019, there has been a significant lapse in updates to Valve’s VR hardware products. There were prior indications that Valve is in the process of crafting a new VR headset, codenamed “Deckard”, but the specifics remain nebulous. The intent appears to be competition with Meta’s Quest VR headset. Additionally, an enigmatic device received radio certification in Korea this past September, suggesting Valve’s forthcoming endeavors.
