Valve is working on a PC handheld called SteamPal which based on Linux system

Since the great success of the Nintendo Switch, many people have renewed their attention to the handheld game console market. Now there is news that Valve also intends to build a PC handheld on the Steam platform.

This is an exclusive report from the media ArsTechnica. They learned from multiple sources that Valve is making a handheld device similar to Switch, based on the Linux system, relying on their own Steam platform with a large number of games. It is currently called SteamPal. In fact, a codenamed Neptune was discovered earlier, which should be closer to the final name.

According to people who have contact with this hardware project, SteamPal will be an all-in-one PC with a touch screen and handle. The Valve handheld is more like a device mainly used for streaming. In fact, they have done unsuccessful Steam Link streaming boxes and strangely-shaped Steam controllers for this kind of hardware product.

running Windows games Linux

And according to the existing Windows platform handhelds on the market, such as GPD Win 3 and Onebook, they all choose to carry Intel or AMD mobile low-voltage CPUs from thin and light notebooks and use the built-in GPU to run PC games. SteamPad may do the same, but it runs the underlying Linux system and supports most of the games on Steam through the open-source OS. Of course, these are just everyone’s guesses at present, and we still have to wait for the Valve official release.
