Valve has officially released a new sequel, entitled “CS2”, based on the Source 2 engine
Today, Valve officially released “CS2” based on the Source 2 engine. It inherits some of the important features of “CS:GO” while also having many innovative features. As we reported earlier, the name of the game matches Richard Lewis’s scoop and is called “CS2“. Because it uses a new engine, “CS2” has many new features that are rarely seen in previous “CS” games, and even in other FPS games.
Firstly, there is an improvement to smoke grenades. In “CS2”, smoke grenades are dynamic 3D objects that can react with various factors in the game. This not only means that smoke is affected by lighting, but also by terrain, bullets, and grenades. Players can use grenades or shoot to disperse the smoke, creating a brief window of observation. This undoubtedly affects the gameplay of the entire game and also brings about a fundamental change for competitive matches. In addition, the coverage area of smoke grenades in “CS2” is consistent in each player’s view, meaning that some bug smokes will no longer exist.
Secondly, the change in refresh rate is also a major highlight. Many “CS:GO” players prefer to play on platforms such as FACEIT instead of official servers because the platform generally uses 128-tick servers, while official servers use 64-tick servers. Like screen refresh rate, a higher tick rate means that the server can more accurately capture the player’s actions, and some movements can only be achieved on a 128-tick server. Now, “CS2” brings a brand new sub-tick refresh rate, and now whether it is 64-tick or 128-tick, player behavior is consistent.
Lastly, of course, there is an update to the graphics. If players have experienced “Half-Life: Alyx”, they will definitely know the improvement of the Source 2 engine in this aspect. Valve has used the new Source 2 development tools to completely renovate many classic maps, and the textures of some maps are more refined than in “CS:GO”, and the lighting is more realistic. Valve, who values community operations, also announced that these Source 2 tools will be provided to the workshop for creative purposes so that some map creators can create more beautiful new maps or upgrade existing maps.
Another important thing is that the player’s “CS:GO” inventory will be brought into “CS2” intact. Thanks to the Source 2 engine, some accessories will have more dazzling effects.
Currently, “CS2” is in a limited testing phase. Eligible players who open the game after today’s update can experience the new era of “CS”. Valve stated that this test is focused on solving major problems and ensuring that “CS2” can be released as scheduled this summer.
