Twitter is also interested in acquiring TikTok’s business in the United States
Recently, US President Trump signed an executive order requiring TikTok’s parent company, Bytedance, to stop TikTok from operating in the United States after 45 days. However, if Bytedance sells TikTok to a US company, TikTok can continue to provide services to US users. This period of time is considered to be a buffer period that Trump gave ByteDance to sell TikTok to a US company, which is to force ByteDance to sell TikTok.
Microsoft is currently the only company that has publicly admitted that it is negotiating with Bytedance on the acquisition of TikTok. On August 2nd, Microsoft stated in its company blog that Microsoft CEO Nadella had already contacted US President Trang on the acquisition of TikTok. Nadella had a conversation and said that Microsoft will not only acquire TikTok’s US market ownership, but will also acquire TikTok’s ownership in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It is expected that the negotiation will be concluded on September 15.
Regarding Microsoft’s acquisition of TikTok, former CEO, Ballmer said he was very optimistic and felt that this was a good opportunity for Microsoft. The former CEO, Bill Gates said that this acquisition is a “poisoned chalice”, which looks very attractive, but it is actually harmful because it will cause Microsoft to face tougher governments from various countries, regulatory policies and antitrust investigations.
Today, the Wall Street Journal reported that in addition to Microsoft, another company also intends to acquire TikTok’s business, and has also had preliminary discussions with ByteDance. This company is Facebook’s number one competitor, Twitter.
Twitter’s acquisition of TikTok has many benefits. Now in the field of social media, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok are inextricably linked in the United States, and acquiring TikTok is obviously the best thing for Twitter.
In addition to business competition, Twitter is much smaller than Microsoft, has a powerful opponent like Facebook, and has rich experience in social media censorship.
At present, the media has contacted Twitter to inquire about this matter, but a Twitter spokesperson did not give an accurate answer.
