The performance of Apple M2 chip is not as good as that of AMD and Intel
The machine used by Hardware Unboxed is the new 13-inch MacBook Pro. Its M2 chip is a complete 8-core CPU + 10-core GPU with active fan cooling. The first is Cinebench R23, Apple’s M2 chip lags behind the 25-28W AMD Ryzen 7 6800U and Intel Core i7-1260P in multi-threaded benchmarks. The single thread is higher than AMD but still can’t bypass Intel.
In 7-Zip’s compression and decompression tests, Apple’s M2 chip can be faster than AMD and Intel in compression performance. However, when decompressing, it lags behind the other two CPUs by a large margin. In fact, this is the case with the previous generation M1 chip. As for other test results, you can go back to the video of Hardware Unboxed, in general, the M2 chip can outperform AMD and Intel’s previous-generation mobile CPUs, but it’s barely in front of the Ryzen 6800U and Core i7-1260P.
