The latest cumulative update for Windows 10 causes the SFC/SCANNOW command to fail
SFC/SCANNOW is estimated to be a frequently used command by many users. This command can automatically scan system file changes and try to fix them. However, Microsoft seems to have smashed the repair command by the cumulative update pushed this month. The command can still scan for an exception but cannot be repaired properly. According to some netizens, this issue may affect Windows 10 Version 1809&1903. Other versions are not tested and it is unclear whether it is affected.
The principle of the repair command is mainly to scan the system file and verify whether it is the same as the source file. If it is found to be different, it is considered that the system file has been tampered with. The automatic repair mechanism can then replace the tampered file with a cached copy, which can be used to resolve system crashes caused by unexpected situations. Damaged files can still be detected when the repair command is used in the latest version, but the prompt fails when attempting to repair and asks the user to check the logs.
Microsoft seems to have not found this problem so there is no fix. Some netizens tested it and thought it might be related to Windows Defender anti-virus software, which may be the culprit.
Of course, if you need to repair the system urgently, it is recommended to use the DISM command. Compared with the SFC command, the DISM command can be used to solve the abnormal problem more effectively.
