The laptop version of the Nvidia RTX Super series will be available early next year

It was reported about a month ago that Nvidia’s new mobile GPU is in the plan, and its source is the configuration information of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen4 gaming notebook. According to the leaked Lenovo product specification image, this unreleased gaming laptop provides Intel Xe, GeForce GTX 1650 Ti / 4GB GDDR6, GeForce RTX 3060/8GB GDDR6, GeForce RTX 3070 Super / 8GB GDDR6 and GeForce RTX 3080 Super/16GB GDDR6 graphics cards to select.

RTX 3070 Super

This is the first time I have seen GeForce RTX 3070 Super / RTX 3080 Super graphics cards, but Lenovo’s data did not reveal any specifications. It only provides video memory capacity. It seems that GeForce RTX 3070 Super / RTX 3080 Super and the product based on GA104 core have the same memory capacity configuration.

As a comparison, you can look at the current configuration information corresponding to the GeForce RTX 30 series mobile GPU. GeForce RTX 3080 has 6144 CUDA cores, 8GB/16GB GDDR6, 256-bit memory width, 80-150W; GeForce RTX 3070 has 5120 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR6, 256-bit memory width, 80-125W.

Recently, Twitter user @greymon55 said that Nvidia plans to launch GeForce RTX 30 series mobile GPUs with the “Super” suffix. Notebooks equipped with this series of graphics cards will be available early next year, which is consistent with the information previously leaked by Lenovo. However, what is more puzzled is which chip will be used by GeForce RTX 3070 Super / RTX 3080 Super. This is also one of the sources of rumors about GA103. Later, the person who first revealed this information claimed that this chip was canceled.

In addition, there is news that GA103 will be equipped with more CUDA cores and will focus on mobile platforms, which means that desktop platforms may not have models based on GA103 GPUs. If Nvidia does have plans in this regard, I believe more news will flow out in the next few months.
