  • Canalys announced the 2022 Q1 India’s smartphone market report

Recently, Canalys, an international research organization, released a report on smartphone shipments in the Indian market in Q1 2022. It said total shipments were 38 million smartphones, an annual growth rate of just 2%, which it said was mainly due to suppliers experiencing intermittent supply issues. At the same time, Canalys also announced the shipments of major smartphone manufacturers.

The report shows that Xiaomi topped the list with 8 million smartphone shipments, but compared to last year, Xiaomi showed a downward trend, with an annual growth rate of -24%. The second place is the Samsung smartphone, which shipped 6.9 million units, an annual growth rate of -2%. The third place is realme. It can be seen from the data chart that its growth momentum is the fastest. In 2022, Q1 shipments will reach 6 million units, and the annual growth rate will not drop but rise, reaching 40%. It is also the only brand on the list with a positive annual growth rate, while Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO, and vivo all have negative annual growth rates.

In addition, the fourth and fifth places are vivo and OPPO, respectively. In 2022, Q1 will reach 5.7 million units and 4.6 million units respectively. It is also expected that realme can have such a performance. Since the establishment of the brand, they have been focusing on the Indian market, and are known for their main low-end models and cost-effectiveness, which is in line with the tonality of the Indian market.

This is not a great start to the year for a market like India, which has seen double-digit percentage growth even during the pandemic,” said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia. “While most of the world’s markets battled the third wave of COVID-19 in Q1, the relatively weaker impact on India should have helped it return to growth quickly. But supply remained the biggest challenge for the leading vendors, such as Xiaomi and vivo, and they struggled to secure components for their volume-driving low-end models. In contrast, brands such as realme, Tecno and Itel did remarkably well with solid supply to take on the market leaders and fulfill the low-end demand in Q1.

  • Realme mid-range phone will be shipped with OnePlus’ Alert Slider in April

OnePlus has maintained a traditional design since the debut of the original model – an Alert Slider. It has continued to this day and has become one of the iconic symbols of OnePlus. Its function is to quickly set the silent, vibrate, and ring modes of the phone without unlocking the screen.

In fact, Apple users should be familiar with it, because the iPhone also has a similar physical switch design, but it only supports setting to two states. According to the latest Mysmartprice reports, realme, which has developed rapidly in recent years, may also bring an Alert Slider design to its new models, and this realme phone will be positioned as a mid-range model.

In fact, realme has a relatively close relationship with OnePlus and OPPO. They are all mobile phone brands under the BBK Group. It is reasonable for them to support and share technology or design.

There is no information on this realme model at present, and Mysmartprice only said that it will be launched at some point in April. From realme’s official Weibo, we can learn that they are currently warming up the realme 9 5G series models, which include Realme 9 5G and Realme 9 5G SE. Realme 9 5G will be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor, while Realme 9 5G SE will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor.
