Star Labs launched the StarLite Mk V – A 2-in-1 laptop powered by Intel N200
Star Labs, a purveyor of Linux-centric computers, previously garnered attention with the release of their Byte Mk II mini-host. However, according to Liliputing, they have rejuvenated the StarLite product range, culminating in the debut of the StarLite Mk V.
Deviant from its predecessor, the Mk IV, the StarLite Mk V adopts a 2-in-1 laptop design, boasting dimensions of 28.33 x 20.3 x 0.89 cm and a weight hovering around 0.9kg. The device is embellished with a 12.5-inch IPS touchscreen displaying a resolution of 2880×1920, accommodating 10-point touch. Under the hood, it harbors the Intel N200, a 6W Alder Lake-N processor configured with a quad-core, quad-thread exclusively consisting of E-Cores. The system memory extends to 16GB of LPDDR5-4800, complemented by a 512GB PCIe 3 SSD, although consumers have the latitude to upgrade to a more voluminous 1TB or 2TB storage drive. For connectivity, the StarLite Mk V employs the Intel Wi-Fi 5 9650 card, also extending support for Bluetooth 5.1.
When juxtaposed with other 2-in-1 laptops, the StarLite Mk V laptop brims with a plethora of ports: dual USB Type-C 3.2 outlets fortified with PD 3.0, a Micro HDMI, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Star Labs claims it can seamlessly support two monitors, each with a resolution of 3840×2160 at 30Hz. In addition, it is bundled with a 65W USB Type-C charger accompanied by a 2-meter charging cable. The official narrative touts a 38Wh battery, promising a battery life that stretches up to 12 hours.
Being a Linux-oriented device, the StarLite Mk V’s BIOS is grounded in the open-source ethos, incorporating coreboot. Star Labs graciously offers complimentary pre-installations of Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Manjaro, while a Windows pre-installation commands an additional fee.
