In recent years, Sony has moved its first-party games to the PC platform, such as Horizon, God of War, and Uncharted, and finally made it possible for many PC players to experience them. Recently, PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal has also
announced that it will soon land on the PC platform, but this game has high hardware configuration requirements.
On the product page of Steam, Returnal’s recommended configuration actually requires 32GB of memory, and the minimum requirement is 16GB, which is higher than masterpieces with super-large maps such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and Cyberpunk 2077. Although the price of memory is relatively cheap now, it is not enough to have a pair of 32GB memory in hand. According to Steam’s latest hardware statistics report, currently, less than 15% of players have 32GB and above memory, and 16GB is the most mainstream, accounting for 52.62%. There are also nearly half of the players who can’t meet the minimum memory requirements for Returnal.
As for CPU and graphics card requirements, Returnal is not too low. It is recommended to use i7-8700 or Ryzen 7 2700X, paired with RTX 2070 Super or
RX 6700, which also belongs to the mid-to-high-end players on Steam. After all, most players use only GTX 1650 and GTX 1060 and only touch the minimum configuration requirements.
Ported games often require higher hardware requirements than those originally developed on the PC, probably because Returnal is exclusively on the latest generation console PlayStation 5. It was originally developed for high hardware specifications. Although Sony officially stated that the game is optimized for PCs, it still needs a large memory and a relatively strong graphics card to drive it. In addition, it is reported that the PC version of Returnal will support DLSS and FSR technologies, which already have ray-tracing effects, so it is no wonder that the recommended graphics card requires RTX 2070 Super or RX 6700.
