Samsung has been increasing its use of smartphone parts from suppliers in China and Taiwan recently to diversify its supply chain. According to Business Korea, Samsung will purchase 3.5 million and 3 million OLED panels from BOE and CSOT, respectively, for its Galaxy series smartphones in 2022.
Market research institutes predict that Samsung will purchase 155.5 million OLED panels for the Galaxy series of smartphones in 2022, of which Samsung will supply about 149 million, accounting for 96% of the total, and the remaining 4% will come from BOE and CSOT. As of 2020, the OLED panels used by Samsung are self-produced, but by 2021, Samsung began to introduce OLED panels from the outside, but 99% of the 140.8 million OLED panels purchased are still supplied by itself. Although BOE and CSOT are still relatively small at present, they are expected to continue to grow in the future. In addition, CSOT is currently supplying OLED panels for Samsung’s Galaxy M series sold in India.
BOE and Samsung are partners on the one hand and competitors on the other, and BOE is actively supplying more OLED panels to Apple.
