Samsung will increase the memory configuration of the Galaxy S24 series
At the Galaxy Unpack 2023 event held on February 1st, Samsung unveiled its new generation Galaxy S23 series flagship smartphones. Unlike previous iterations, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra models all feature a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 platform, with no Exynos chip versions available and a rather conservative memory configuration.
Recently, Twitter user @Tech_Reve revealed the memory configuration for next year’s Galaxy S24 series, claiming the information is from a reliable source. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are expected to have 12GB of memory, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra is set to reach 16GB. Compared to the 8GB found in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+, and the maximum of 12GB in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, this is a substantial improvement.
As flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S23 series has a smaller memory capacity than many models on the market, lacking larger-capacity options, which has been a point of criticism for some users. It is reasonable for the Galaxy S24 series to increase memory configurations, although Samsung may still offer an 8GB memory option in the lower storage combinations for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Ultimately, the series would have 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB memory capacities.
Some argue that the Galaxy S24 series will consume more power by using additional memory chips. Although this has merit, it depends on the type of memory utilized. Samsung recently announced the higher-frequency LPDDR5X chips, which offer greater bandwidth and consume 20% less power than standard LPDDR5. Pairing this high-speed LPDDR5X memory with a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen3 platform should be an efficient choice.
