Samsung
confirmed that they will hold their new product launch conference in the second half of the year on August 10. This time, the protagonist is clearly a folding screen mobile phone. In recent years, Samsung has been focusing on folding screens in the second half of the year. It can be seen that Samsung has great confidence in this new form of smartphone, and now they officially stated that in the past year, the global shipments of folding screen mobile phones have approached 10 million.
TM Roh, president of Samsung’s mobile division,
said in a recent blog post,
“Three years ago, Galaxy foldables could be summed up in a single word: radical. Very quickly, however, it became clear that this groundbreaking, flexible design fit perfectly into modern lifestyles. As a result, what was once a novelty three years ago is now the preferred choice for millions.”
However, this is quite different from the data given by other agencies. According to a recent DSCC report, about 7.9 million folding screen mobile phones were shipped last year, while the data from IDC research is more conservative, with only 7.1 million units.
However, in the current folding phone market, Samsung is indeed the absolute first brother. According to data from DSCC, Samsung has occupied 87.8% of the market share in 2021, followed by Huawei with only 9.3%, and only 2.4% and 0.9% of Xiaomi and Oppo with only one model.
Samsung is expected to bring a new generation of Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 at this August conference, and the positioning should still be the high-end flagship.
