Samsung plans to release smartphones and other device chips based on the 5nm process next year

Samsung has already begun mass production of chip products based on the 7nm process, but the company has also decided to start using the 5nm process next year. Samsung said it has begun small-scale testing of 5nm process chips and also uses EUV (extreme ultraviolet) technology currently on the 7nm process. Interestingly, the company also announced that the EUV lithography line for manufacturing 7-nanometer chips cost $6 billion, and it can be seen that the initial investment is very high.

As for the 5nm process chip, the time to market is currently scheduled for next year, when Samsung will provide a 5nm process for its own products and other customers’ OEM products. In addition to Samsung, TSMC has launched prototype products in the current 5nm process. TSMC said that the number of transistors has increased by 80%, and Samsung said it has increased by 25%. Intel is also participating in TSMC and Samsung’s competition for 5nm process orders, but Intel‘s 7nm process is not currently in use.
