Samsung officially starts mass production of QD-OLED panels on Nov 30

According to a report from Edaily Korea, Samsung may officially start mass production of QD-OLED panels at the end of this month, which is November 30. The first shipments will be 34-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch, 34-inch is for monitor use, and 55-inch and 65-inch are naturally for TV.

Edaily Korea quoted industry sources as saying that Samsung Display’s CEO Choi Joo-sun recently shared his plans for Samsung Display’s future with management and employees, as well as the current details when it comes to the latest development of QD-OLED. He said that the yield rate of QD-OLED panels was not low at the beginning, and the output is expected to get better and better. Finally, he mentioned that QD-OLED panels will start full-scale production on November 30.

Choi Joo-sun also mentioned the specific dimensions of the first batch of QD-OLED panels:

QD Display will mass-produce and release 65-inch and 55-inch TVs and 34-inch monitors, and decide whether to increase production based on market reaction.

At present, Samsung Display’s QD-OLED production capacity is 30,000 substrates per month. With the addition of MMG production technology, the annual potential production capacity is about 1 million QD-OLED TV panels.
In fact, there have been reports as early as two years ago that Samsung is preparing to mass-produce QD-OLED panels, but there has been no news of pressure cutting.
