Rumor: Nvidia and AMD will launch new GPUs on mobile platforms early next year
In the past two months, there has been news about Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 30 Super series. The earliest source is the configuration information of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen4 gaming notebook. However, Lenovo’s data does not reveal any specification information but provides the memory capacity. It seems that the GeForce RTX 3070 Super / RTX 3080 Super and the product based on the GA104 core have the same memory capacity configuration.
After that, it was rumored that NVIDIA will release a new chip called GA103, which will focus on mobile platforms. Later, people familiar with the matter said that the version of the desktop platform is also being prepared. NVIDIA will release these new products of the Ampere architecture early next year. It is understood that GA103 will still be manufactured using Samsung’s 8nm process and will be put into production this quarter. What is interesting is its specifications, how NVIDIA will configure the number of SMs, and the video memory bit width.
When all eyes are on Nvidia, Twitter user @greymon55 said that AMD will also release a new Radeon RX 6000M series on mobile platforms to counter the GeForce RTX 30 Super series. Nvidia’s move is easy to understand. The product line layout of the Ampere architecture has reached a stage, which is relatively complete. Next, it can be supplemented and adjusted as needed.
It is rumored that the specification of GA103 is higher than that of GA104. It is normal to provide more powerful products on mobile platforms to consolidate its leading position. However, the positioning of AMD’s existing product line is more precise and has been well arranged. Compared with the release of new products, it may be more urgent to increase the supply.
In any case, the two parties will continue the competition to the mobile platform, which is definitely a good thing for consumers.
