Rumor: Core i9-12900K Alder Lake-S has a turbo frequency of 5.3 GHz
Intel’s first desktop x86 processor with big.LITTLE hybrid architecture, and also its first desktop processor based on 10nm SuperFin process, Alder Lake is considered the key to Intel’s fight against AMD. It is rumored that Intel’s 12th-generation Core series processors, which opened the era of DDR5 memory, are scheduled to be released in November 2021.
According to HotHardware, the desktop version of Alder Lake-S has completed the ES phase, entered the QS phase, and is close to the retail version. Someone claimed on the Internet that they have the QS version of the Core i9-12900K, which is equipped with 8 Golden Cove performance (large) cores and 8 Gracemont efficiency (small) cores (without hyperthreading), with a base frequency of 3.9 GHz and a turbo frequency of 5.3 GHz. Of course, this does not mean that the final retail version is also at this frequency, and it may still be adjusted.
It is understood that this Core i9-12900K QS version has a score of about 11,300 in Cinebench R20, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous ES version. For reference, the current score in the current i9-11900K processor Cinebench R20 is about 6200-6300. Based on the Zen 3 architecture, AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor with 16 cores and 32 threads has a score of about 10,400. The Core i9-12900K scores around 8.6 percent higher.Other users said that if you want to use the full performance of this processor, you must run on the Windows 11 operating system, although some previous ES versions of Alder Lake-S processors cannot be used on Windows 11. There have been rumors that Windows 11 has made major adjustments to the scheduling mechanism, so such news is not surprising. Previous tests of Lakefield series processors have confirmed this to a certain extent.
