RPCS3 is the first game console emulator to support FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)
Since AMD announces open-source FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology, developers have recently used this technology more and more widely. First applied to almost all Vulkan games in the Linux environment (including dxvk and vkd3d-proton), and then added to SteamVR, allowing VR games to take advantage of AMD’s technology. In addition, the Unity engine will support FidelityFX Super Resolution in the upcoming 2021.2b version, and Unreal Engine 4 also provides a support patch.
Recently, PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 announced that it has supported FidelityFX Super Resolution. After updating the latest version, users can turn on this feature in the GPU option in the settings. According to the introduction of RPCS3, it can currently run on Windows, Linux, or BSD systems. The emulator supports 62% of PlayStation 3 games, and 31% will fail after running. The remaining 6% cannot run the game at all after displaying the game menu. In any case, as the first emulator to support FidelityFX Super Resolution, it is still worth encouraging.
Since the PlayStation 3 emulator is very constrained by the performance of the CPU, the advantage of FidelityFX Super Resolution may not be as obvious as that of general PC platform games. According to the current trend, I believe that FidelityFX Super Resolution technology will be applied in more places in the future.
