Razer CEO confirmed that it will increase the price of next-gen gaming laptops
Early next year, both Intel and AMD will launch new products for high-performance gaming laptops. Intel is the Alder Lake-P with a hybrid architecture, which is the 12th-generation Core series mobile processor based on the Performance Core of the Golden Cove architecture and the Efficient Core based on the Gracemont architecture. AMD is code-named Rembrandt and adopts the Ryzen 6000 series of Zen 3+ architecture.
At the same time, both Nvidia and AMD may update their graphics chips. Nvidia is almost certain to launch the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile platform, and the AMD Radeon RX 6000M series will likely be upgraded to TSMC’s N6 process. As a brand with a gaming laptop product line, Razer will obviously also adopt new products from Intel, Nvidia, and AMD to launch new gaming laptops.
Recently, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan stated on his Twitter account that due to the substantial increase in the cost of parts and components, Razer’s next-gen gaming laptops will have constant pressure on the cost. After a long meeting and discussion, Razer decided that the next generation of gaming laptops will increase retail prices.
In view of the continuous supply shortage in the semiconductor industry in the past year, Razer’s decision will not come as a surprise. Obviously, other notebook computer manufacturers will also have the same pressure, and it is not ruled out that they will increase prices like Razer.
Razer is expected to show off the new gaming laptop at CES 2022, with Core and Ryzen platforms. The increase in component costs mentioned by Razer is not necessarily limited to CPU or GPU, including screen, memory, components, etc., which may push up the manufacturing cost of the whole machine.
