Qualcomm will launch a new ARM desktop processor SC8280
After Apple launched the M1 chip based on the ARM architecture, Qualcomm may be the most irritated, after all, the company took the lead in using the ARM chip on the desktop.
It’s just that the performance of the products launched by Qualcomm and Microsoft’s previous cooperation is relatively ordinary or even poor, so Qualcomm has not achieved much in the project for several years.
What’s interesting is that after Apple introduced a new chip to replace Intel, the market trend changed in an instant. Qualcomm said that many partners inquired about ARM desktop products.
For Qualcomm, although Apple’s participation is a competition, it actually helps to build the entire ecosystem, so now Qualcomm will continue to develop such products.
Qualcomm previously provided chips for Windows 10 ARM devices including the Qualcomm Snapdragon series and the specially developed 8cx chipset and 8cx optimized and upgraded versions.
According to the media reports, the company is currently developing a new desktop dedicated processor, which is likely to be an upgraded version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen2 processor.
The name of the product is unclear for the time being, but its internal code is SC8280, and there is also an SC8280XP model.
In terms of performance, SC8280XP has 8 cores, which Qualcomm calls 4 Gold+ high-end cores and 4 Gold high-end cores, which are also designed for large and small cores.
Among them, the main frequency of the Gold+ core is 2.7GHz, and the main frequency of the Gold core is 2.43GHz, but for the time being, the media have not been able to obtain other technical parameters.
Information obtained by the media also shows that Qualcomm is currently actively testing these new processors, but it is unknown when Qualcomm will launch these processors.
It is reported that Qualcomm is currently testing on 14-inch laptops, and these processors will support up to 32GB of memory.
