Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8cx 5G compatible with Windows 10
Earlier, Qualcomm officially launched the Snapdragon 8CX chipset compatible with Windows 10 PC, hoping to compete with the Intel Core i5 processor on the desktop platform. Now Qualcomm is launching the 8CX enhanced version of the built-in Snapdragon X55 chip, which allows the Windows 10 mobile platform equipped with the chip to support 5G networks. The Snapdragon X55 modem has been described in detail before: This is an upgraded version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 and is compatible with 4G LTE networks.
The most intuitive change this device brings to the device is that the Windows 10 mobile platform no longer requires a separate pre-installed 4G or 5G modem. These Windows 10 devices support always-on connectivity and can also take advantage of the mobile network, allowing users to easily access the network when traveling.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor used by most of the Android flagship machines used today is the X50 chip, which is the old chip released by Qualcomm last year. The senior vice president of Qualcomm said that the 5G version of the Snapdragon 8CX allows the Windows 10 mobile platform to support its Gigabit LTE network and has an advantage in terms of energy efficiency.
Compared to Intel’s desktop processor, Qualcomm’s ARM processor, the power consumption is lower, allowing Windows 10 mobile platform devices to achieve longer lasting endurance. In terms of shipping time, Qualcomm said it has already provided samples to customers, and it is expected that manufacturers will release portable devices equipped with 8CX in the second half of the year.
