Qualcomm released new Snapdragon AR2 platform & S3/S5 Gen 2 Sound Platform
Qualcomm held the Snapdragon Technology Summit from November 15th to November 17th. In addition to releasing the second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, announcing the new Oryon processor, and announcing the expansion of cooperation with Adobe, the first-generation Snapdragon AR2 platform (Snapdragon AR2 Gen 1 Platform) and the second-generation Qualcomm S5 and S3 audio platforms (Qualcomm S3/S5 Gen 2 Sound Platform) were also launched.
The Snapdragon AR2 platform is designed to create ultra-thin, high-performance AR glasses. It adopts a multi-chip distributed processing architecture combined with customized IP modules, including AR processors, AR coprocessors, and connection platforms. According to Qualcomm, the PCB area of the main processor of the platform in AR glasses is reduced by 40%, the overall AI performance of the platform is increased by 2.5 times, and the power consumption is reduced by 50%. It can support AR glasses to achieve a power consumption lower than 1W, which can satisfy a longer wearing time and cope with various consumer and enterprise use scenarios.
Among them, the AR processor is optimized to achieve low latency from action to display, and supports up to nine parallel cameras at the same time; a dedicated hardware acceleration engine with improved user motion tracking and positioning; is equipped with AI accelerators that reduce high-precision input interaction delays such as gesture tracking or six degrees of freedom (6DoF); The connectivity platform leverages the Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 connectivity system, supporting Wi-Fi 7 and FastConnect XR Software Suite 2.0.
Both the second-generation Qualcomm S5 and S3 audio platforms support Snapdragon Sound technology and are optimized with the second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform. It also supports the third-generation Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology and the new Bluetooth LE Audio. The new platform brings new features, including support for spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, optimized lossless music streaming, and an ultra-low latency gaming experience of 48 milliseconds between the phone and the earbuds.
