Qualcomm launches the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3/Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platform

At the Snapdragon Technology Summit held by Qualcomm, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platform, which provide system-level performance, speed, and efficiency for laptops, tablets, and other devices. The new platform supports multiple days of battery life, AI acceleration, and high-speed 5G connections, and is suitable for portable and fanless Windows and Chromebook mobile devices.

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform is the world’s first Windows PC platform with a 5nm chip. Compared with the previous generation product, the Kryo core CPU used has increased single-thread performance by 40%, multi-thread performance by 85%, and its GPU performance has also been improved by 60%, and a one-time charge can provide 25 hours of battery life. Thanks to Qualcomm AI Engine, its AI performance exceeds 29 TOPS, achieving acceleration under various workloads.

It is understood that the third-generation Snapdragon 8cx computing platform uses Samsung’s 5nm LPE process. Its CPU consists of four Cortex-X1 cores clocked at 3.0 GHz and four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz, with 6MB of L2 cache and 8MB of L3 cache. The new platform supports up to 4K resolution, 4K HDR 120fps video hard-decoding, and up to a single 24 million pixel camera.

The platform also has a powerful 5G network connection function, supports a variety of Snapdragon X55/X62/X65 5G modems and radio frequency systems, and achieves a maximum connection speed of 10 Gbps. At the same time, it also uses the FastConnect 6900 mobile connection system, combined with the Wi-Fi Dual Station co-developed with Microsoft, and FastConnect 4-stream Dual Band Simultaneous to achieve the current fastest commercial Wi-Fi 6/6E transmission speed

Compared with the previous generation of products, Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 compute platform has upgraded the manufacturing process from 8nm to 6nm, the CPU performance has increased by 40%, and the graphics performance has increased by 35%. It benefits from the FastConnect 6700 mobile connection system, which brings better Wi-Fi 6/6E transmission speed. The integrated Snapdragon X53 5G modem and radio frequency system can provide a connection speed of 3.7Gbps.
