Qualcomm is allowed to provide 4G chips to Huawei
Earlier, there were rumors that Qualcomm’s application to the US Department of Commerce for the export of chips used in mobile phones to Huawei and its affiliates has been approved by the US Department of Commerce.
However, for now, neither Huawei nor Qualcomm have responded to market rumors, so it is still impossible to determine whether Qualcomm has actually been licensed.
The latest news is that a Huawei supply chain company confirmed that Qualcomm has indeed obtained an export license, but the export license currently obtained by Qualcomm has restrictions on products.
According to supply chain sources, Qualcomm has only obtained 4G chip export licenses to Huawei. For now, Qualcomm has not obtained a license to export 5G chips to Huawei.
Although only Qualcomm’s 4G chip supply is better than no chip at all, Huawei is struggling because it lacks chips in its mobile phone business.
With these chips, Huawei can continue to launch low-end Huawei equipment, and Huawei is unlikely to launch high-end equipment that lacks 5G network support.
Although people in the supply chain did not disclose where the information was obtained, since Qualcomm has obtained the permit, Huawei may continue to purchase raw materials to produce. If 5G chips can be supplied in the future, the impact on Huawei should continue to decrease.
