Qualcomm Announces Acquisition of Autotalks, Israel’s Automotive Security Chip Designer
Qualcomm has confirmed the acquisition of Israeli automotive safety chip designer Autotalks, a deal estimated to be worth between $350 million and $400 million, which is expected to bolster Qualcomm’s profitability within the intelligent vehicle market.
Established in 2009, Autotalks operates as a fabless company, primarily focusing on vehicle safety chip design. This includes providing dual-mode, globally standardized V2X solutions for automotive safety standards and compatibility with various design standards, ensuring vehicular safety during road operations.
Intelligent vehicle operations are anticipated to become a significant revenue growth driver for Qualcomm. Previously, the company increased its automotive business revenue target from the initial $10 billion to $30 billion and expects to expand it to $40 billion by 2026.
During CES 2023, Qualcomm announced the launch of the Snapdragon Ride Vision automotive platform, which incorporates technology acquired from Veoneer and promotes intelligent vehicle design with an open, scalable, and upgradable architecture.
With the acquisition of Autotalks, Qualcomm aims to enhance road safety during the operation of intelligent vehicles by integrating Autotalks’ technology into the Snapdragon digital cockpit design, facilitating safer operations for a greater number of intelligent and autonomous vehicles.
