Philips releases 2023 OLED TVs: META OLED, brightness 2100 nits, MediaTek flagship chip
Philips announced that it will launch 2023 OLED TVs, including OLED808 and OLED+908 series. All new models feature the seventh-generation P5 AI processor which can adjust the picture realism according to the real light, tone, and brightness.
OLED+908 is positioned as a flagship product and is divided into three sizes: 55 inches, 65 inches, and 77 inches. It uses LG’s META OLED panel, bringing 4K@120Hz Dolby Vision mode, which supports some games on Xbox Series X, using a Micro Lens Array (MLA) similar to the compound eye structure of a dragonfly, it achieves a peak brightness of 2100 nits, which is a 70% increase compared to the old model. In addition, it also has a built-in 80W Bowers &Wilkins frontal sound system, as well as Ambilight on three sides.
OLED808 uses an OLED EX panel, which provides five sizes of 42 inches, 48 inches, 55 inches, 65 inches, and 77 inches, of which 42 inches is added for the first time. It provides very good game performance, adds 4K@120Hz Dolby Vision mode, supports variable refresh rate (VRR) from 40Hz to 120Hz on 48Gbps bandwidth, supports FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC Compatibility, along with Auto Low Latency Mode, HDMI 2.1 eARC and other advanced features.
These new TVs are equipped with MediaTek’s flagship Pentonic 1000 chip, which has powerful decoding performance. It not only supports common HEVC, VP9, AV1, ATSC3.0, and AVS3 but also supports H.266 decoding. From 2021, Philips’ new TVs will gradually shift from Android TV to Google TV, with a more stylish user interface and some exclusive features, such as children’s mode.
Philips has not yet announced the price and specific time to market for OLED808 and OLED+908. Next, there will be a more affordable OLED708 series, which should arrive later this year. In addition, Philips also released the new The Xtra series models, including two series 9008 and 9308, using mini LED panels.
