Oracle showcases new supercomputer with 1,060 Raspberry Pis
Performance is not a feature for the Raspberry Pi, but when more than 1,000 Raspberry Pis are integrated, it becomes a supercomputer. At the OpenWorld conference, Oracle showed a special supercomputer using the Raspberry Pi. This supercomputer is equipped with 1060 Raspberry Pis, but it is not the latest fourth generation, but the third generation 3B+, configured as Broadcom BCM2837 processor (quad A53 1.4GHz), VideoCore IV GPU, 1GB memory.
These Raspberry Pis are divided into 21 nodes, each of which is 2U in size, each with 50 Raspberry Pis, and uses a special 3D printed bracket that is assembled in just one day. Different nodes are connected by Ubiquiti UniFi port switch, the uplink link speed is SFP+ 10GbE. The Raspberry Pis receive their power from a series of USB power supplies. There is also a storage server in the central area that is used to start all Raspberry Pis on the network.
Oracle did not disclose the actual performance of this Raspberry Pi supercomputer, and it is likely that it will not be commercially available.
