The open source community released the first DAV1D codec based on AV1
The AV1 codec is a new video codec technology introduced by the Open Media Alliance. It is mainly used to promote the development of the Internet industry and compete with HEVC.
The Open Media Alliance is formed by industry-renowned technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Netflix.
The biggest advantage of the AV1 codec is that its efficiency is 20% higher than HEVC and the patent license is free, while HEVC collects royalties and charges are confusing.
