Omdia predicts that demand for OLED panels will usher in substantial growth

Recently, when Apple introduced OLED display panels to the iPad Pro series for the first time, it elicited enthusiastic responses from many tech enthusiasts. Omdia, a renowned global technology market research firm, has recently stated that based on their long-term tracking of demand for various display devices, they predict that from 2023 to 2031, the demand for OLED display panels in mobile PCs will continue to grow, with an estimated compound annual growth rate of 37%.

In their analysis, Omdia noted that due to the global economic situation, the demand for OLED display panels in mobile PCs slowed down in 2022 and 2023. However, with the recent emergence of AIPC and the continuous advancement of AI technology, major laptop manufacturers are preparing to launch new AIPC products this year. Furthermore, with the gradual phase-out of the Windows 10 system, Omdia expects a market revival for laptops in the second half of 2025.

Omdia believes that Apple’s introduction of OLED display panels in the iPad Pro series is a milestone. Current reports suggest that Apple will eventually apply OLED display panels to all iPad series products. This strategic move is likely to influence other manufacturers’ adoption strategies for OLED display panels, potentially driving market demand. It is anticipated that by 2029, the shipment of OLED tablets will exceed 30 million units.

Additionally, Ricky Park, Omdia’s Senior Principal Analyst, mentioned, “Apple is highly likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026. This move could spark a significant surge in OLED demand within the notebook market, potentially reaching over 60 million units by 2031.”
