NVIDIA’s new graphics card no longer supports older Windows 10 systems

With the shipment of NVIDIA RTX 2080 series graphics cards, the company has released a new version of the Microsoft-certified driver to better support graphics card operation.

However, in the release log of the new version of the driver, it is specifically mentioned that the user needs to install at least the Windows 10 Version 1709 Fall creator update.

If the user uses the old version of Windows 10, the graphics card driver cannot be installed usually. The graphics card driver cannot be installed normally, and the graphics card cannot be used commonly.

It is recommended to use the latest April update:

The NVIDIA release log also mentions that Windows 10 Version 1803 is recommended for users who are advised to use the RTX 2080 series for best results.

The reason for recommending this version is that Microsoft introduced DXR ray tracing technology in this version, and NVIDIA’s RTX technology needs to call the DXR interface.

DXR ray tracing technology was introduced by Microsoft earlier this year, so it is currently only supported in the April 10 update of Windows 10 Version 1803.

Whether to support the old version is still unclear:

It is worth noting that NVIDIA puts the minimum requirement for Windows 10 Version 1709, the Fall creator update, as a known issue in the release log.

Since it is a known problem, it is reasonable to say that the follow-up should be resolved, so it is not clear whether Nvidia does not support the old version of Windows 10 at present.

However, since users who purchase RTX2080 series graphics cards want better results, they still use the latest version with DXR ray tracing.
