Nvidia resumes the supply of GeForce RTX 3080 12GB due to there is too much stock of GA102

Nvidia quietly released the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB earlier this year. Compared with the original GeForce RTX 3080, the GDDR6X memory used in the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB version increases the capacity by 2GB, and the memory bit width is increased from 320 bits to 384 bits. In addition, the number of SMs has been increased to 70 groups, which will be equipped with 8960 CUDA cores, the base clock is 1.26 GHz, the boost clock is 1.71 GHz, and the TDP has also been increased from 320W to 350W.

With the rising yield of NVIDIA GA102 and guaranteeing better profits, NVIDIA stopped supplying the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB in June this year. However, Twitter user @Zed__Wang recently revealed that due to the current excessive stock of GA102, Nvidia has decided to resume the production of GeForce RTX 3080 12GB graphics cards.

Obviously, Nvidia’s performance in the second quarter of fiscal 2023 has fallen sharply, coupled with a large backlog of GeForce RTX 30 series GPU inventory, forcing Nvidia to lower specifications and supply more and more affordable products. Previously, it was reported that NVIDIA has directly intervened in the inventory cleanup of its partners’ GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. High-end graphics cards equipped with GA102 GPUs are the hardest hit areas and have been listed as the focus of the cleanup.

With the next generation of GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards based on the Ada Lovelace architecture approaching, Nvidia needs to increase the speed at which it clears inventory. Interestingly, Nvidia has never announced an official MSRP for the GeForce RTX 3080 12GB.
