NVIDIA may launch RTX 3050 4GB graphics card

AMD’s RX 6500 XT and NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 were released around the same time. I thought it was a pair of rivals, but the reality is obviously not the case. The positioning of the RTX 3050 is significantly higher than that of the RX 6500XT. The RTX 3050 has 8GB of video memory, while the RX 6500XT has only 4GB. In terms of price, the RTX 3050 is also significantly higher than the RX 6500 XT.

So does NVIDIA plan to launch a counterpoint product for the RX 6500 XT? The possibility is there, Nvidia RTX 3050 4GB appeared in TechPowerUp‘s GPU database. This graphics card is not the same as the desktop RTX 3050 8GB that uses the GA106 GPU. It uses the same GA107 GPU as the mobile version of the RTX 3050, and the number of stream processors is less than the current RTX 3050 8GB. the RTX 3050 with GA106 has 2560 CUDA units, while the RTX 3050 4GB has only 2304 CUDA units.

In fact, NVIDIA versions of the same type of graphics card with different memory, using cores of different specifications have appeared many times. The most typical are GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 1060 3GB, and their low-end models also often mix GPUs, which is not uncommon.

The Nvidia RTX 3050 4GB is priced at the same $199 as the RX 6500XT. The lack of two sets of SMs on the GPU actually has a limited impact, but the difference between the reduction of the video memory from 8GB to 4GB is big. Nowadays, many games take up more than 6GB of video memory at 1080p resolution, so the video memory of 4GB video memory is basically not enough, and the performance will naturally be greatly affected.
