No other games will support Microsoft FPS Boost technology for the time being

At the recent Xbox brand’s 20th anniversary celebration, Microsoft announced that it will add backward compatibility and FPS Boost support for more games. At that time, Microsoft had confirmed that it would no longer support backward compatibility for more games. Although Microsoft said FPS Boost support will continue, now this plan seems to be suspended.

According to PureXbox, Xbox Project Management Director Jason Ronald mentioned FPS Boost in an interview on the Iron Lords Podcast. He revealed that due to technical problems, FPS Boost will not add more games in the foreseeable future. Jason Ronald said:

“We’re always looking at new ways that we can enhance titles, whether it’s resolution increases, frame rate improvements, things like Auto HDR. I’ll say right now, with the existing technique that we have with FPS Boost, we’ve tried plenty more than [the 130 FPS Boosted titles] and in some cases the vast majority of the game works great, but then we find a game-breaking bug 80% of the way through.”

“We’re going to continue to look for new opportunities and new ways that we can enhance titles, but we don’t have anything in the immediate future… Right now, I think we’re kind of finding where some of the limitations of our current technique is.”

FPS Boost is an impressive feature, and it’s surprising that it can support the current number of games. There are many games that have never been released on PC. Now FPS Boost can get a higher frame rate and resolution, which can be said to solve the urgent needs of many games. It is a pity that this technology has encountered some obstacles, and I hope that Microsoft can find other ways to make more games meet the current game standards, such as 4K resolution or 60 or 120 frames.
