Murena 2 is a mobile phone that focuses on privacy protection

In contemporary times, a multitude of mobile devices tout privacy protection as a primary selling point. According to reports from Liliputing and e Foundation, Murena 2 appears to take this emphasis on privacy a step further, making it paramount both in its hardware and software design.

To begin with, the Murena 2 ingeniously embeds a switch on either side of its frame, each complemented by an indicator light. The switch on the left, dubbed the “privacy switch,” when activated, physically disconnects both the front and rear cameras as well as the microphone. Murena asserts that even in the unfortunate event of the device being compromised, this switch can effectively thwart intruders from accessing data from the camera or microphone.

On the right, another switch, termed the “disconnection switch,” upon activation, propels the device into airplane mode while simultaneously muting it, ensuring minimal disturbances emanating from the phone.

On the software front, the Murena 2 boasts an operating system known as /e/OS. Customized from Android, this OS has been meticulously “de-Googled.” This means that /e/OS comes devoid of any Google applications or services. It eschews Google’s search engine in favor of an alternative, replaces Google services with the microG component, and ensures that connectivity checks, time synchronization, DNS, and geolocation never intersect with Google’s servers.

As for its application store, Murena 2 employs the open-source App Lounge, which amalgamates applications from both Google Play and F-Droid.

Diving into other technical specifications, the Murena 2 is powered by an unspecified octa-core processor (4x 2.1GHz + 4x 2GHz), coupled with 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM, and permits an expansion of up to 512GB via microSD. Additionally, it flaunts a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2400 and a battery capacity of 4000mAh. The phone’s dimensions measure 159.7 x 73.3 x 7.8mm and it weighs 182g. Worth noting, the device is 4G-compatible, not extending support for 5G.

Currently, the Murena 2 is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of 499 euros. However, early birds can avail of it at a discounted rate of 399 euros.
