AMD’s 300 series motherboards were launched with the first-generation Zen architecture processors in 2017. It has been 5 years since they have been discontinued, but it does not mean that the life cycle is over. Because AMD still uses the AM4 interface until now, these old motherboards theoretically only need to update the BIOS to use the latest CPU. Recently, MSI has provided a new BIOS for their AMD 300 series motherboards, which now supports AMD Ryzen 5000 Vermeer CPUs and Windows 11 system.
MSI has now released the BIOS of their X370 and B350 to support Windows 11 system on the official website, and these new BIOS also include support for AMD Ryzen 5000 Vermeer CPU, after being verified by wccftech using Ryzen SMU Checker, these 300 series motherboards now support Ryzen 1000 to 5000 series processors.
Of course, not all the Ryzen 5000 series are supported. The new BIOS lacks support for the Ryzen 5000G APU of Cezanne architecture. Maybe MSI will have a BIOS update in the future. As for the Vermeer-X with 3D Cache, it is not yet clear whether it will continue to be called the Ryzen 5000 series. This will not be known until next year’s CES.
The above picture is a screenshot of Ryzen 5 5600X running on MSI MAG B350 Tomahawk. The AGESA version is 1.1.0.0, and the latest one is 1.2.0.5 BETA. This AGESA is actually a relatively old version.
