Microsoft Windows 10 “device as a service” is officially launched

Microsoft has announced that Microsoft 365 Enterprise Edition, a new hosted desktop service powered by Microsoft’s cloud computing business, is officially launched in the US and UK.

The official name of the service is called Microsoft Managed Desktop, which brings together Microsoft 365 Enterprise and Device as a Service and Microsoft Cloud-based device management.

The usage scenario is mainly to help enterprise users to provide a high-security environment, that is, users need to connect to the cloud server through the remote desktop protocol for use.

Daily security management and updates are all done by Microsoft’s automated tools and provide real-time security monitoring and improvement to manage global device clusters.

Microsoft hopes to isolate the physical machines of enterprise users in this way to avoid revealing confidential information stored in the enterprise due to previous updates or phishing attacks.

To put it just, Microsoft hopes that enterprises can directly move the production environment directly to the cloud, and Microsoft provides a service-based service to reduce the number of cyber attacks.

At present, Microsoft has signed agreements with some partners to help the company develop Microsoft Managed Desktop, including functional development and expansion of enterprise use needs.

What is the difference with a standard remote desktop:

For enterprises to use this environment, you can directly open related cloud services, and then you can connect to the server through Remote Desktop Protocol.

So self-provisioning and deployment seem to be no different from Microsoft’s management desktop, but this approach is not much different from the physical machine.

The most significant core of Microsoft Managed Desktop is that Microsoft provides a service for the maintenance service, which means that both updates and security issues are taken over by Microsoft.

Also, Microsoft Managed Desktop provides customized data backup and downtime switching for enterprises, and also allows enterprise administrators not to worry about data loss caused by hardware damage.

Microsoft believes that Microsoft Managed Desktop will become a new choice for enterprises. In this way, enterprises will fundamentally change their thinking about IT and management methods.
